WAHO is a specialized institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) responsible for health issues. WAHO’s objective is the attainment of the highest possible standard and protection of health of the peoples in the sub-region through harmonization of the policies of Member States, pooling of resources, and cooperation for a collective and strategic combat against the health problems of the sub-region. WAHO has strategic goals and priority programs in the Region. One of the goals is the promotion of priority health policies and programs, which include: health information and research for health; disease control; epidemics and health emergencies; health promotion; medicines, vaccines and other health products; traditional medicine; mother, child, adolescent, youth and older people’s health; health infrastructure and equipment; health system governance and human resources for health. The other strategic goal is strengthening strategic partnerships for health.
Thedocumentation center contains a documentary collection of extensive collections of periodicals since 1930, reference books and EMC encyclopedias.
